Can you name the capital of all 12 countries of South America?
Each round shows a country of South America and its flag; type its capital. Bolivia has more than one accepted city. Wrong guesses can be tried again, there is no timer, and naming all 12 completes the run.
How to play
- Each round shows a country’s name and flag. Type its capital in the box below. Capital letters, accents and punctuation do not matter, and where a country has several capitals or a separate seat of government, any listed city is accepted, along with common alternative spellings.
- A correct answer is accepted by itself after a short pause and the next round begins. Press Enter to check any other answer.
- A wrong guess is marked so you can try again, as often as you like. There is no timer.
- Stuck? Press Finish to end the run: the answer is revealed and that country counts as missed.
- The 12 capitals of South America come in shuffled order, each once. Your score counts up to 12 at the top of the board, and naming the last one completes the run. The answer review below the board lists every round.
- Your result is saved in this browser. Once enough people have played a game, the results also show how your score ranks, and you can copy or share an image of your result, or replay.

Frequently asked questions
How many capitals are in the Capitals of South America quiz?
12, one for each country of South America in the site’s 197-country list. French Guiana and the Falkland Islands are not separate answers.
Which countries of South America have more than one accepted capital?
Bolivia (Sucre or La Paz). Where a country divides its capital functions or has a separate seat of government, any listed city counts.

No. Accents and punctuation are optional, so “Brasilia” counts for Brasília and “Bogota” counts for Bogotá. Capital letters do not matter either.
What happens if I guess wrong?
Nothing is lost. The guess is marked and you can try again as often as you like. The run ends when you name all 12 or press Finish, which reveals the answer.
Where do the answers come from?
