Can you name the capital of all 45 countries of Europe?

Each round shows a country of Europe and its flag; type its capital. The Netherlands has more than one accepted city and five capitals share their country’s name: Andorra la Vella, Luxembourg, Monaco, City of San Marino and Vatican City. Wrong guesses can be tried again, there is no timer, and naming all 45 completes the run.

How to play

  1. Each round shows a country’s name and flag. Type its capital in the box below. Capital letters, accents and punctuation do not matter, and where a country has several capitals or a separate seat of government, any listed city is accepted, along with common alternative spellings.
  2. A correct answer is accepted by itself after a short pause and the next round begins. Press Enter to check any other answer.
  3. A wrong guess is marked so you can try again, as often as you like. There is no timer.
  4. Stuck? Press Finish to end the run: the answer is revealed and that country counts as missed.
  5. The 45 capitals of Europe come in shuffled order, each once. Your score counts up to 45 at the top of the board, and naming the last one completes the run. The answer review below the board lists every round.
  6. Your result is saved in this browser. Once enough people have played a game, the results also show how your score ranks, and you can copy or share an image of your result, or replay.

Tips for playing

Think about the official capital rather than the best-known city: in this set, the capital of Switzerland is Bern.

Frequently asked questions

How many capitals are in the Capitals of Europe quiz?

45, one for each country of Europe in the site’s 197-country list. Russia and Kosovo are included; Türkiye, Cyprus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are counted in Asia.

Which countries of Europe have more than one accepted capital?

The Netherlands (Amsterdam or The Hague). Where a country divides its capital functions or has a separate seat of government, any listed city counts.

Which capitals share their country’s name?

Andorra la Vella (Andorra), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Monaco (Monaco), City of San Marino (San Marino) and Vatican City (Vatican City). Type the full name where the capital adds a word: “Andorra” alone is not accepted for Andorra la Vella.

Do I need to type accents or punctuation?

No. Accents and punctuation are optional, so “Chisinau” counts for Chișinău. Capital letters do not matter either.

What happens if I guess wrong?

Nothing is lost. The guess is marked and you can try again as often as you like. The run ends when you name all 45 or press Finish, which reveals the answer.

Where do the answers come from?

From the mledoze/countries dataset (Open Database License 1.0), adapted with accepted alternative spellings and seats of government and last reviewed in October 2026. The full list of accepted answers is below.
