Can you name all 49 flags of Asia?
Name the country behind each of the 49 flags of Asia, from Afghanistan to Yemen. Watch for close pairs such as Iraq and Yemen, and China and Vietnam. Wrong guesses can be tried again, there is no timer, and the run is complete when you have named all 49.
How to play
- A flag fills the board. Type the name of its country in the box below. Capital letters, accents and punctuation do not matter, and common alternative names such as “Ivory Coast” or “UK” are accepted.
- A correct answer is accepted by itself after a short pause and the next round begins. Press Enter to check any other answer.
- A wrong guess is marked so you can try again, as often as you like. There is no timer.
- Stuck? Press Finish to end the run: the answer is revealed and that flag counts as missed.
- The 49 flags of Asia come in shuffled order, each once. Your score counts up to 49 at the top of the board, and naming the last one completes the run. The answer review below the board lists every round.
- Your result is saved in this browser. Once enough people have played a game, the results also show how your score ranks, and you can copy or share an image of your result, or replay.
Tips for playing
Read each flag in three passes: the layout (bands, a cross, a triangle), the order of the colours from the flagpole or from the top, then any emblem. Often the emblem is the only difference: Iraq’s flag is Yemen’s with green script added.

Frequently asked questions
How many flags are in the Flags of Asia quiz?
49: one for each country of Asia in the site’s 197-country list. Türkiye, Cyprus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan are counted in Asia, and Russia in Europe.
Which flags of Asia look alike?
The closest look-alikes are Iraq and Yemen; China and Vietnam; Indonesia and Singapore; Jordan and Palestine; Bahrain and Qatar; Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The guide below says how to tell each apart. Indonesia’s red-over-white flag is almost identical to Monaco’s, in the Europe set.
What shape are the flags?
Each flag is shown in its official proportions, height to width. 24 of the 49 use 2:3, the most common proportions. Nepal’s flag, two stacked pennants, is the only one taller than it is wide. Israel’s 8:11 is the squarest among the rectangles; Qatar’s 11:28 is the longest.
What happens if I guess wrong?
Nothing is lost. The guess is marked and you can try again as often as you like. The run ends when you name all 49 or press Finish, which reveals the answer.
Where do the flag images come from?
Wikimedia Commons: each is the current national flag Wikidata lists for the country, in its official proportions. Afghanistan is shown with its 2013–2021 national flag, as in the world quiz. All are public domain except the flag of Oman, used under the Open Government Licence – Oman 1.0.
How to tell Asia’s look-alike flags apart
- Iraq and Yemen: red, white and black horizontal bands; Iraq adds green Arabic script on the white band, Yemen has nothing on it.
- China and Vietnam: yellow stars on red; China has one large and four small stars in the upper corner, Vietnam one large star in the centre.
- Indonesia and Singapore: red over white; Singapore adds a white crescent and five stars.
- Jordan and Palestine: black, white and green bands with a red triangle at the hoist; only Jordan’s triangle carries a white star.
- Bahrain and Qatar: a white band with a zigzag edge at the hoist; Bahrain’s flag is red with five white points, Qatar’s maroon with nine and much longer.
- Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates: green, white and black bands with red; the UAE has a red vertical bar at the hoist, Kuwait a black trapezoid.
- Indonesia’s red-over-white flag is almost identical to Monaco’s, in the Europe set.
- Egypt’s version of the red, white and black bands, with a golden eagle, is in the Africa set.
