GDP per Person
Which country produces more per person? Compare GDP per capita in US dollars and choose higher or lower. Total size does not help here: a large economy divided by a large population often lands below a small, wealthy one. One mistake ends the run.
About this game
Which country produces more per person? Compare GDP per capita in US dollars and choose higher or lower. Total size does not help here: a large economy divided by a large population often lands below a small, wealthy one. One mistake ends the run.
Understanding the comparison
Population is the trap. China and India have huge economies and middling figures per person, while Luxembourg, Ireland, Switzerland and several Gulf states sit at the top. Small financial and resource economies score higher than their visibility suggests. Ireland’s figure is inflated by multinationals booking profits there.
How this measure is defined
Gross domestic product divided by population, in current US dollars converted at market exchange rates. Exchange-rate conversion makes countries with weak currencies look poorer than a purchasing-power comparison would. It is an average, so it says nothing about how that income is distributed.
