About this game

Two countries, two flags, one question: which one covers more ground? Work through the world by surface area, from Russia down to Monaco. Correct answers extend your streak and the next country slides in automatically. One mistake ends the run, and there is no timer.

Understanding the comparison

Map projections mislead. Anything near the poles looks far larger than it is, so Greenland, Canada and Russia feel bigger than the numbers say, while countries near the equator look smaller. Algeria is larger than Greenland. Trust remembered figures over the shape you picture.

How this measure is defined

Surface area covers land plus inland water such as lakes and rivers, which is why the figure runs slightly above the land-only area quoted elsewhere. Territorial waters are excluded. Overseas departments are counted with the country that administers them, following the World Bank series.
